Kyle & Lauren

When they were born, Lauren was our feisty, colicky baby, while Kyle was our happy, easy going baby. About six months later, they swapped roles and they've stayed that way ever since--Lauren is now our giggling sweetie, and Kyle is our demanding little devil. Lauren has a wide vocabulary and articulates complicated sentences of someone twice her age. Kyle likes can be harder to understand because of his weaker tongue and swallowing muscles, and he's ornery as the day is long, but they are happy kids who light up whatever room they're in. It's a joy to watch them play together, even when they aggravate each other and argue over their toys!

Lauren is stronger than Kyle, though her body is still very weak. She loves Minnie Mouse and the Disney Princesses, and she loves role playing toys like a doll house or farm set. We've even caught her in her high chair holding a Cheet-o in each hand and making them "talk" to each other. And boy, does Lauren love to sing. To hear her squeaky little voice belt out "Jingle Bells" or "Happy Birthday" is music to our ears. She's such a friendly, social little girl, and when we take her out in public, she regularly shocks strangers by complimenting them on something ("that's a really beautiful sweater!") or simply telling them to "have a wonderful day!" She's a little person with a big voice and a lot to say.

Kyle is so daring that he can drive us bonkers. He regularly injures himself when he purposely tips himself over, so we must strap him into whatever play chair he is in for his own safety. He loves anything with airplanes or helicopters, and he adores The Wiggles. His speech isn't as well-developed as Lauren's, which can make it hard to understand what he wants to express, but his speech therapist is very pleased with his progress in the last year. And now that he's getting older, Kyle loves to play with cars and airplanes, watch any sport on television, and loves his iPod touch and the Wii.
